When all is quiet on the work front, Simon Kotowicz creates his own films. His most famous creation being "Pritchard vs Dainton", a skateboard video released in 2001 which introduced Welsh lunatics Matt Pritchard and Lee Dainton to MTV.
It all started way back in 2000, when Kotowicz owned a skateboard shop. Lee Dainton was a shoe rep, who often sold skateshoes to Kotowicz's shop. Dainton had been filming some skateboarding and had a slot on a projection screen at a trade show. With no equipment or expertise to edit it himself, Dainton asked Kotowicz if he could knock up some sort of video out of his tapes.
A week later, Kotowicz turned up at the event with a tape in hand. Nobody had seen it yet. Notable faces from the skateboarding community took their places, eagerly awaiting Dainton's video...
After the promo finished, everybody sat in silence. Nobody had seen anything quite like this before. Pritchard turned to Kotowicz and said, "Kotowicz! You're doin' the video, Bud!"
Kotowicz accepted Pritchard's offer and spent three or so months working on the skateboard classic. Six months after it was released, "Pritchard vs Dainton" received a cease and desist order, banning it from sale.
